Treasury certificate register, 1845-1867.

This series contains only one volume of the treasury certificate registers of the Treasurer's Office. It covers the period from 1845 to 1867. During this period, treasury certificates were issued by the State Treasurer as notes of indebtedness of the state to the claimant. The treasury certificates were circulated as a form of scrip in lieu of specie. Although the certificates were issued in the name of the claimant, they could be endorsed by the buyer to the seller. The series documents the Treasurer's account of certificates issued by his office. The volume contains the following information: date of issue; certificate number; to whom issued; category of expenditure; the amount of the certificate; and who paid in on the certificate.
